Two of the most fun parts of my trip to Ghana were the visits to heaving markets in the two largest cities, Kumasi and Accra. Throughout the trip it was tricky to shoot in public, as most Ghanaians object to their photo being taken, in the belief that their soul is being taken by the camera. To my knowledge prior to the trip, this belief was only held by the muslim faith and I struggled on the street to shoot candidly.
The solution in hectic situations was to shoot at 16mm mostly from the hip, or use my sister as a foil! There was so much going on in the markets that it was a fun challenge to walk (or get pushed..) through these intense spaces and being sly with my camera..oh for a discreet Leica!
